Season: The land is for the people

“Terra em transe” – “In the hypothetical Latin-American country of Eldorado, the idealistic and anarchist poet and journalist Paulo Martins fights against the populist governor, Felipe Vieira, and the conservative president Porfirio Diaz, supported by revolutionary forces. Paulo is depressed, since the two corrupt politicians were his former friends and have been elected with his moral support”.

To conclude the series about the Brazilian issue, we could not miss out on Glauber Rocha, probably the most well-known Brazilian film-maker, a central figure of Cinema Novo and more generally, of the revolution-aimed arts in South America. We will screen his masterpiece Terra em Transe, a movie of a tremendous scope. At the end of it an open talk will help us withdraw conclusions, specially regarding political insatiability, corruption and other major issues in Brazil from the insight of Rocha’s cinema.
